Book: Hole In My Life Author: Jack Gantos. Today we discussed how Jack is finally starting his journey traveling to New York and the first steps of Jack in jail. Jack agrees to help his friend by delivering marijuana from the Key West to New York. He meets a man named Hamilton who agrees to help carry the stash and they sail off together on a very long journey. On the boat, Jack is pushed around by Hamilton and Jack hates it on the boat. He focuses on whats ahead of him, what the end prize is. If he completes the mission, he will earn 10 thousand dollars and will be able to go to school. He ignores the whole thought of how illegal this whole mission is. I have been looking a lot to how Jack looks at other characters, how he judges them and criticizes them. I want to look more at how characters treat Jack and how Jack notices it, since the story is told through his eyes. Some themes I noticed in the book are how people are treated socially, because of their age, and the theme of moral choices. Throughout the book, Jack makes a lot of bad choices. He is very good at reasoning, though. All the choices he makes, he seems to think about them before making them, but he just seems to override all that judgement. As the book develops, a lot is going on and you can sense Jack will be in trouble soon. It’s just a matter of time until he takes a hit.
